The most important words for your personal and professional growth
I am going to give it away at the outset.
I don’t know.
That’s it. I don’t know.
If you think about it, most problems in our world arise when we assume we know everything.
We fail companies because we believe that we know what the market wants and refuse to take in the feedback from our customers.
We create appalling human misery when we believe that we know what is the experience, circumstances and motivations of other humans, starting wars, mistreating migrants and even making the lives of our family, friends and close ones miserable.
We even destroy our planet by refusing to see what we are doing to it.
All this because we think we know.
It’s only when you accept that you may not know something, only when you are willing to let go, to challenge your assumptions and prejudices and rebuild your vision of the world, that you open yourself to learn something new and gain a better perspective of reality.
Only when we realise we don’t know do we become open to taking in the reality of others and truly exercise empathy.
But, above all, realising you may not know makes you an expert at the most human of all…
